The closing of the APJCC was the first impact I felt from the Coronavirus pandemic. I had been working with PT Lori Barker for the two years since I had extensive back surgery, and I was worried that the progress I had made recovering would be interrupted or even negated. I was happy to learn that I would be able to continue at home through our twice weekly Zoom sessions. The App was easy to download, the quality of the interaction with her was smooth and my hourlong routine was as challenging as when I had access to all of the machines at the gym. In fact, I have been very impressed with the ingenuity she has shown in finding new exercises to work the same muscles without heavy weights and the other equipment no longer available to me. While I continue to take walks everyday, just having someone to remind me twice a week to add a good weight bearing exercise session is worth the cost, as I know that I would find ample excuses to put them off if left on my own.
I had been working with a personal trainer, Lori Barker, at the JCC for over a year and felt it was really helping me both mentally and physically. When the JCC closed due to the virus I felt everything I had accomplished would be wiped out and I would revert to my “old self”.
After about a week of inactivity Lori informed me she would be offering on-line sessions and for the last 6 weeks I have been having workout sessions in my home twice each week. I really enjoy these sessions and even though I don’t have all of the equipment available at the gym, Lori is very skilled at building a workout based on the equipment I do have. This on-line training has been so helpful to me in keeping me physically active and giving me something to look forward to during our shelter-in-place.
I’ve known Lori for many years and we have had a great time exercising together! She has given me a lot of help and support as she continues to be up on the latest anatomy, nutrition and physiology.
This information has helped me prepare for various 10K’s, half marathons, and other fun runs. Thanks Lori!
